What is Quantum Cryptography? An Introduction

Try as we might, malicious actors can sometimes outsmart classical encryption methods, especially with accessible quantum computing. That’s where quantum cryptography comes into play -- it uses physics, not math, to secure messages. In theory, quantum key distribution is un-hackable.

BB-84 is concise, simple, powerful, and truly a thing of beauty.

"Alice and Bob can then compare the splitter they used." How does that happen? If it's over the same channel that kind of defeats the purpose.

With respect to the OSI model then, does that mean that this is a layer one security system, where the only vulnerability that exists is if the polarizers are compromised or exploited?

Sounds like this may be the hidden sauce behind some crypto's.

What you are telling is not quantum cryptography, using light and fiber optic is normal cryptography not quantum cryptography. Quantum cryptography does not uses any back doors which is what allow it to secure data. Today computer uses back doors which allow multiple computers to be link. Back doors secure data but also make it vulnerable to hackers. Quantum cryptography secure data by not have back doors in the first place. This secure data from being hack but make it vulnerable to data being lost if something bad were to happen to main data.

almost everything evolves, people may evolve enough to decrypt it.

Introduction is wrong. The field that handles the challenge of quantum computers threatening standard cryptography is called post quantum cryptography. Quantum crytography is about preventing man in the middle attacks during key exchange, which is an existing problem to standard cryptography.

why are you all people using this same names in your examples...every video i've seen so far about cryptography it;s all Bob and Alice as the examples 😂😂😂

I'l stick with maths based solutions for now. The McEliece cryptosystem and lattice-based crypto seem quite capable of resisting quantum computing attacks.

Just a slight credibility hit asserting that fiber optics must be used. It's just data. Copper can be used, RF transmission, LEOS... etc. Once it's encrypted, the media type doesn't matter
