I think the most amazing trick Derren has ever done is that he's successfully convinced us all he's not psychic.

Easily my favourite illusionist, carries himself well, very original, dresses his acts up but doesn't over do it.

i like how he acts amazed and happy at the end, even though he already knows well before that the trick is coming together perfectly

i always find myself not asking how he does his tricks because honestly i dont care. he could have a wholedeck of 4Hs and i wouldnt care. Its his presentation. His performance and his reputation as a mind reading nutcase that always makes the tricks incredible.

Look at the suspense and surprise he has built into this card trick, something every magician has to learn

6:56 - surely I can’t be the only one to imagine Derren saying “hello Amanda, I want to play a game” in his best Jigsaw voice!

Anyone that doubts Derren Brown (and i know of a few cynics myself) should see his stage shows - the end routine of Svengali, for instance, is amazing - also the telephone number at the end of Infamous. Watching them on TV or Youtube is impressive; watching them at the theatre is mind-blowing.

Original plan:
- Blue deck is mostly 4 of hearts cards
- Red deck he places 4 of hearts at position 43 cards from front, 9 cards from back
- derren choose subject who will be veneurable to impression
- derren's team expose woman to the number 43 throughout the week e.g. at her work, at home, in emails
- woman chooses 43 as her number
Backup plan:
- there are 9 steps up to the stage,
- he tells story about when he was 9
- he can turn the pack over and count the other way if she takes the short term number, instead of the long term number
- 52 - 9 = 43

Derren Brown is 99% magician, and 99% showman.

2:10 he does a fake cut. Could indicate that the first 5 or so cards are random and the rest are the same? Furthermore, at 2:14 he directs him to hold his finger above the main cluster of cards (including where the random ones are) and tells him to bring his finger along the deck, indirectly making him not choose the random cards. Doesn't account for the rest of the trick, but just my 2 sense

What I love about Derren Brown is that his brand of magic "seems" real. You can find "revealed" videos all over YouTube explaining how various magic tricks were done. Derren Brown's magic is different. It defies that kind of explanation. If you watch a lot of Derren Brown, you'll notice that very often his tricks aren't quite perfect - which enhances the illusion that it's not magic. When predicting 3 or 4 cards, and all of them are right except for one - and that one is just the wrong suit or one number off. The audience then believes that it IS really mentalism. He's a genius. It's magic with a "mentalist" angle. His explanation that he plants ideas into people's head is just part of the theater. I don't believe it. It simply wouldn't work often enough to be reliable. Even if 20% of the people didn't take his suggestion, that's failing an awful lot.

Waiting for Sherlock to appear at the comment section and explain everything...or will he?

the music choreography is either diabolically ingenious or out of pure chance perfect

A very clever man. If you listen very carefully to what he is saying he often repeats the words 'free and for' and during his story telling he also repeats the number nine.
