Some people say that knowing how a trick is done ruins it for them, but the thing I love about Derren is that when he does give explanations I am often more blown away knowing the way he did it.

One of the best examples of this was when he played 9 games of chess simultaneously against expert players, but was really remembering their moves and recreating them against each other, so they were actually playing one another and not him. To me, that staggering feat of memory was far more impressive than if he'd genuinely been able to beat them with chess skills.

The unbelievably accurate cold readings (such as the fake medium stuff that makes him so uncomfortable) and instant hypnosis / influencing of random people on the street (like getting people to pay out on losing tickets or accept blank paper as if it were money) are probably my favourite things he does. And the predicting and manipulating of people's behaviour... Convincing someone to choose or say or believe something. It might not be 'real' magic, but it's pretty damn miraculous.

The physical stuff (nails in the face or hands, walking on / lying on / eating glass, etc) I am not a fan off, it just makes me uncomfortable and cringe and want it to be over, but stuff like The Cluedo episode where he got a guy to confess to a murder he didn't commit was probably the most entertaining / fascinating thing I've seen in a very long time.

Best guess I've got is the tabletop is a scale, zeroed out with all the buttons. Buttons removed should give a number.
