If a service dog approaches you without a human:
1. Follow them.
2. Check their vest while you are following them for any instructions. A dog's vest might tell you not to call 911, so please respect this. The dog's bags might contain medication like inhalers or epi-pens, or a number to call for help that's specific to that person.
3. Always remain dog-neutral. Let the handler praise their dog... just verbally acknowledge the dog and tell them you are coming and instruct them to "find mom or dad". This is actually OKAY to do, contrary to popular belief!!
4. Make sure to communicate with the handler, and be sure to comment politely that their dog did what it was supposed to do by seeking help (as the handler may not be aware of this during a medical episode, and needs to reinforce this behavior if it is desired).
