Renee Geyer's 'Say I Love You' performed on 'Countdown' in 1981, is a good segue to my next post - another Calypso-esque track and recorded around the same time - Blondie's 'Island Of Lost Souls'. Like a lot of teenagers in the 1970's, I was pretty keen on Deborah Harry! Blondie were such a significant part of my youth and of the pop culture in the 1970's and early 80's. 'Island Of Lost Souls' however was to be their last major hit for a couple of decades when it was a Top 15 hit in England and here in Australia. Making only #37 in America, it was the only successful single from their 6th long player 'The Hunter'. Debbie Harry would venture into a solo career with some achievements, but it is her work as the lead of the brilliant six piece band Blondie, that she made her biggest mark. Songs like 'Heart Of Glass', 'Rapture' and 'The Tide Is High' made the band radio regulars and so many of their songs sound so great all these decades later

Instead of another pic montage of the beautiful Deborah Harry, I opted to find a performance clip of 'Island Of Lost Souls' to prepare this post. The one I found is weird to say the least! Featuring just Deborah, and looking uncomfortable (nearly tripping more than once), the video is from a British pop program. I have re-edited and extended it, to accommodate this longer album version Mp3 (about a minute extra from the 7 inch version released in the U.K & Australia)

'Island Of Lost Souls' by Blondie, kicks off a week of classics from 40 years ago.
