I own the X1 phev and it’s great. I do mainly local trips with some long trips and I can get 100 mpg. Yes I plug it in most days and I do not drive like a motoring journalist.

I'm actually surprised that the British government hasn't closed the PHEV loophole yet. Self-charging hybrids are a lot less offensive in terms of lab test consumption against real world, but then some people might actually use a PHEV properly so it'd be unfair to penalise them. Still, it hasn't stopped the government before.
I think there's still something to be said for a decent modern diesel, and it's good that BMW offer them here, certainly if you're lugging around people or property.
