Honestly, the kit is better than I thought it would be and a decent introduction for how to build such a kit. You could toss a few items such as the light, extra whistle, and cord saw altogether, and add a few sheets of tinfoil, a cotton scarf, some simple first aid items like antiseptic cream, bandaids, water purification tablets, tweezers, and a couple Tylenol.

First off, a "Survival Kit" is for when you have to spend an unplanned night in the wilderness. It should be a small kit that is easily carried every time that you travel afield to insure that you always have it with you. If you get "turned around" you likely won't give up on finding your way out until near sundown. It's embarrassing after all if "Joe Outdoors" gets lost. Building a shelter in the waning light is a waste of time for the most part. Building up some insulation (ferns, grass, dead leaves, etc.) to sit on at the base of a gently leaning tree and hunkering down with the mylar blanket wrapped around you until morning is the realistic scenario. Sewing kits, fishing kits, snare wire, etc. are more for a "Bug-Out Bag" than a "Survival Kit". A decent head-lamp, some lifeboat snacks, LifeStraw, etc. would be more appropriate.

I believe that the curved part at the end of the ferro rod striker is not designed to scrape the rod it’s designed as a tinder scraper for things like fat wood etc. Thanks for sharing. 👊🏕️

Looks better then most survival kits. The multitool looked alright. I would say it was a missed opportunity to not add one of his branded knives to the kit.

This kit has some decent quality components. Gerber should tweak these older kits and bring out a new series, each "starring" a different multi-tool or knife. It would give us a break from the 1000 nearly identical Chinese survival kits on Amazon. This kit looks pretty stuffed but might fit a tiny first-aid kit, repair patch, and foil to make a bowl to boil water in. Thanks for the review!

Bear Grylls is great if you want to know what not to do in a survival situation. That being said, this kit looks ok. Add a bic!

So many conflate an unexpected emergency (lost/injured hiker/hunter) with living off the land (downed pilot or bug out) scenarios. This kit included. A lost hiker doesn’t need a a fishing kit or snares, and someone living off the land needs serious tools. This is closer to what I’d want in a lost hiker kit and would supply components I’d use in such a kit.

the teeth strikers arent that good get a file or a diamond sharpener remove the paint and give the side of the striker a 90 degree edge and it works like a charm

No offence to you for sure...but personally I wouldn't trust it at all. It is missing a lot of needed items. Just build your own.

My problem with bear is he did stuff for tv that wasn’t safe! He jumped off a cliff in to a cave! In a survivor situation that shit gets you killed!
