When it come to this counter-offensive, it is often overlooked that every tree line is also a fortress. This is like the "hedgerow campaign" after D-Day. They need to fight to clear the front and the side hedgerows for each field. It is worth remembering that in the "Hedgerow Campaign", it took the allied months to break trough despite having air supremacy. So it will take the Ukrainian time and sacrifices. It is rather extraordinary that they managed so much so far.

My Grandfather served as an officer on the Western Front in the First World War. One of his duties was censoring the letters of his men, to ensure that they did not inadvertently reveal locations and other sensitive information.

I wonder what he would have made of this.

Having dine his share of time as an artillery observer on the front line, I’m pretty certain he would have appreciated the drones.

With the line breached, we can expect a strong counter attack.

If there is no counterattack, the line will remain breached and the breach will widen.

The counterattack will be extremely revealing as to the actual strength of russian forces.

The paper bear may at last reveal exhaustion.

Let’s be careful not to celebrate too early, it may be true that Ukrainian troops have breached the first line, but as long ad there are no armoured veichles or Tanks it wont amount to much.
