Stigma is an emotional issue and should not be associated with science fact. If it comes from a country any country it should be recognized as such because of the genetic diversity or isolation within the population so we can figure out a way to approach the varient, if it destroys the citizens of that country or has no effect due to genetic variability or environmental factors or both

Here in Australia they can't name variants.. they call uk variant and indian variant although its common sense although it was first detected in that country but there are chances its not originated from there.

I really appreciate that the WHO understands that sticking a country's name next to the Variant will automatically result in fantastically racist opinions from idiots.

Also I would like to know which of the variants; P1, B1351, B1617, B117
Correspond to which of the names Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Lambda and Mu variants circling around in the news.

Ps: please ban the commenters spreading misinformation in the comment section. It's makes it harder for concerned individuals who to trust despite how insane the claims that are made.

If there are viruses there are variants, as most viruses (and all living cells) mutate. A country where a variant was first detected may or may not be the country where it originated. Hence naming a variant by a name of the country where it was first detected not only adds stigma, it could also be scientifically inaccurate. Thanks for the excellent science in 5!!!

I'm from Brazil, I really don't understand why some people here says that the pandemic doesn't exist, I have been stuck at home, respecting all restrictive measures and my neighbors are partying, is hard to live in this world.
