Guitar: JET USL 240, stock pickups

Mods:

• On-off-on mini switch enables Gilmour mod and Gilmour+ mod

Gilmour+ mod sends neck pickup signal directly to output jack, enabling neck boost and blend-in for bridge or bridge+middle. Strange mod, demo is at the end of the video.

The 2nd position with coil split off and Gilmour mod on, with every coil active, sounds really cool actually

I've just done something similar with my strato mexico wheree I mounted two SSL1 pickup on the neck and the middle position and a JBsh4 on the bridge. I also added a permanent treble bleed and two capacitors for the tones to control the Humbacker sound in the bridge position with a different capacitor to have a more briliant sound

Hello, brilliant, this is the first time I’ve seen anyone try a mod like this apart from me!
Mine’s also a MM Silhouette (w/trem). I couldn’t handle the blade as I kept knocking it when playing any serious rhythm stuff, so I put in a low profile 3 way slider for the HBs only, toggle for the middle SC (on in phase-off-on out of phase) and push pull V and T for each HB split coils. So many tones!
Loving this mod too. Shame we can’t get MM Silos any more for knock down prices though!
Cheers for the vid!

So complicated; sounds great, but several combinations sound so similar it’s almost too subtle for my ears. My HSH project is set up with 2 dpdt on/off/on switches for the double coils and a push/push button for the mid single coil. With independent vol controls for blending. It’s amazing how much can be so simple. The bridge pup is phase wired on 1 side of the switch and blended with the vol pots makes some beautiful tones. Of course the neck pup is full or split. Works for me. PEACE!

Dear Valentine, I have a question, related to out-of-phase problems. I was inspired by your video/mod and plan to do it on my guitar, with active pickups.
However, I am not sure in one thing. With this Gilmour mod, it is possible to have neck humbucker + middle single coil + bridge humbucker combination.
Also, according to your video, when you do coil split, you enable only the outer coil.
On humbuckers, the neck and bridge ones have the opposite polarity of the coils, so if they are enabled together, they will be fine.
But if you put an extra single coil between them, it means you will have e.g. polarities (bridge-middle-neck).
Or if you enable the outer coils AND the middle single coil, you will have e.g. north-north-south polarities.
As I read, it creates noise and they coils will be out of phase.

But I do not hear any such issue in your video. Did you make some extra tricks (e.g. you change polarity of the middle single coil in some pickup positions)? Or you do have some noise/hum and out-of-phase effect, but not too audible?

I already created a wiring diagram which tries to minimize these effects, but if it is not too audible, I will probably just keep your original design - enable coil split.
(I forgot, I will do coil split but in left position the inner, in right the pouter coils will be enabled.)
