Been doing both flat loading and that reverse double pyramid thing when I trained powerlifting. Never thought about it like a training scheme, just through trial and error we found that it works great. A couple of warmup sets with gradually increasing weight seemed to work well and you still had energy when you got to the actual training weight.

I love pyramid training. It's a great way of attaining volume, while hitting the three M's (mechanical overload, muscle damage and metabolic stress).

I use a basic pyramid when I workout, going heavier on each set: 15-12-10-8-6, then go to a lighter weight for a 15 rep burnout.

So basically a feeder set style with progressive warm up sets until you get to your working sets.

I like using a pyramid scheme for my workouts and I have seen great gains, it is an older workout but check it out...Set 1 I use a washcloth for 12-15 reps...Set 2 I use a hand towel for 8-10 reps...Set 3 I use a bath towel for 6-8 reps and finally Set 4 I use a beach towel for 1-3 reps...It really works and I have plenty to wipe sweat off with...Give it a try

Impeccable timing with this one. I've been getting bored with my 5x5 (still progressing, but it's feeling monotonous) and I think the double pyramid method - start at the weight du jour, then add/subtract the % differences per round - is the spice it needs. Thanks, James!

I've been doing the flat pyramid for 27 years without knowing there was a name for it. I tried every version you named and by trial and error that one just worked the best for me and was the most comfortable.
