As much as free trade is good, it has some MAJOR FLAWS that come when some parts of the world can just make things for cheaper bc of geography and kill of all competition...

Edit: For those who don't know, this turns into a Venezuela situation. Each region does what their best at, making one thing. That thing then crashes in price bc of demand or a large external threat makes said region not be able to sell said item, which then causes mass poverty, anarchy, deaths, etc in said region. This is the main critique of totaly free market enterprises. Another thing is that this region can just collectively raise the price once all competition is gone, bad for everyone, and severely raises inflation as everyone has to raise prices to still be in the green, which in the end hurts the consumer

No single country should specialize cheap or large market product. As it would turn into a Venezuela situation. Oil can be imbalanced as it's a much more direct product to be extracted

Large producers and for cheaper labor would dominate more so than smaller countries.

These smaller countries may have to specialize yet in a more niche field. A Taiwan situation of computer chips. Where they buy from the large producers and create these quality computer chips.

The founding fathers wanted the 13 colonies to be a free trade zone, but they wanted protectionism to keep foreign producers (especially our enemy England) from capturing our markets.
All Republicans from Lincoln to Coolidge were staunch believers in protectionism and industrial policy.
We only adopted free trade after WW2 to win the Cold War by purchasing manufactured goods from other semi capitalist countries to keep them from going into the communist world.
Since adopting free trade, Americans real wages have flattened and China has grown richer, more powerful and less democratic (free trade, libertarians repeat the mythology that trading with countries will make them more free and more democratic, it is simply untrue)
We need to go back to the rational protectionism that our founding fathers understood, putting American industry and American workers first, and not trading with communist slave nations.

Free markets are usually the best option to settle an economy, but after said economy has already been settled and developed it's best to regulate the market in order to avoid the exploiting of workers and consumers, while obviously still keeping the market autodeterminative.
