Personally I like the relationship between Karl and Frank's mother. Like whenever she interacts with him, it's like she's talking to a second child. An older brother of Frank's that she's happy to have around and feel safe. She didn't even seem scared when he confessed to murdering his own mother.

Carl's parents treated him like a dog the had some love for, but also it shaped him and mad him a not so bad guy. Felt sorry for him, he deserved better.
