Max Chilton broke the 23-year-old Timed Shootout record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in 2022. The record had been held since 1999 by Nick Heidfeld and the McLaren MP4/13. Here you can see the difference between the F1 run and the McMurtry Speirling's incredible attack.

The fact that the McLaren MP4/13 clearly wants to go off at every corner yet Nick set & held the record for 23 years is astounding.

I hope people realize how close Heidfeld was to death wringing that car out, with that setup, on that surface. Brave man.

Nick looks like he's playing with keyboard, incredible from both drivers

just puts into perspective not only how Nick set the record on a bumpy road with the Mp4/13 that couldn't even hold the line he wanted, but also how fast that electric car is, because it reached the cobblestone wall on that right hand turn almost a second or two faster than the mclaren. amazing engineering

While the McMurty is absolutely incredible, can we talk about how it took 23 years to break Heidfeld's record? That's insane in its own right

My favorite thing about the new lap record is the little jump scare from the marshal at the start line

I was there in ‘99 and also yesterday to see these records made, both awesome and spectacular.

The F1 car was simply too stiff for this track, that or they've resurfaced it at least once since then. The bumps were everywhere and kept upsetting it, still the record wasn't broken for 2 decades. The McMurty with full downforce at standstill launched off like from a railgun, probably a 2g+ start, made most of its time at the first few corners, but I think the F1 car actually made some time back in the 2nd half.

We won't even ask you to decide which was better, just applaud both runs.

I’m formally begging Mercedes to give it a go in the W11.

Everything about that car shines at this track. Extreme acceleration, stability and agility.

A torque monster vs a high RPM beast in a " small" track, isn't the best way to compare them, but damn! That little car is fast AF!

Will a petrol car ever hold the record again? Doubtful

A comparison to the ID.R would be interesting.

The sound of the McLaren is just perfect, brings back my childhood memories of watching Senna racing every sunday.

The McMurty is outstanding; it appears to defy physics. What a feat of engineering. I do remember though Heidfeld saying that he was not flat out and there was probably another's couple of seconds of pace left in the F1 car.

Would be really nice to have a timer on the video or at least the finishing times on screen. They aren't even in the description. Very hard to respect the difference of these two incredible machines

The McLaren still holds the record for the best sounding vehicle at Goodwood.

Truly amazing to see just how fast the McMurtry was against Nick and his MP4/13. Both of them are pretty jaw-dropping, but the Speirling is just on a whole 'nother level!
