I'm so pleased to have found your channel! It's great to see someone making videos with close up shots of the machine in action and more modern designs, I've been really enjoying going through your back catologue of videos and learning a lot <3

For the waistband I would have knit tubular but left 1 stitch out of work 1 needle in on the main bed and the ribber bed. This will make a small gap that is easy to see and hang on the linker. When you link it will fill in and you won't notice the gap. I also use this technique to top apply patch pockets. It makes for a very nice and neat seam line.

for linking the waistband on, I had this same issue when adding a roll trim onto a cardigan, if you leave a needle out of action when knitting 2-3 needles in from knitting edge (do this on front and back bed) it can serve as a guide for linking whilst still looking neat

Hi Elena, beautiful skirt! I love short rows. It's a great (and underrated) technique to create shaping in fabric without reducing the number of stitches or having to create separate panels and seaming.
I liked the waistband. It was an improvement to the first waistband. But, as you worked out when linking it to the skirt, there is a better way. In my opinion, that way would be to begin the waistband as you did, tubular knitting. When the tube is long enough and you have reached the point in the waistband that will be attached to the skirt, set your machine to half tubular knitting. That is:
1. Set the main bed for knitting in both directions and the rib bed for slipping in both directions. Knit one row.
2. On the main bed, pull out a needle on the side of the carriage to increase the waistband for seaming to the skirt. Knit another row. 3. Change the settings on the main bed to slip in both directions and the rib bed to knit in both directions. Knit one row.
4. Increase 1 needle on the ribber, carriage side. Knit another row.
5. Change settings to main bed knitting both ways, rib bed slipping both ways. Knit 2 rows.
6. Change settings to main bed slipping both ways and rib bed knitting both ways. Knit 2 rows.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the length matches the length of the skirt panel it will be attached to.
8. Reconfigure the machine to tubular knitting and decrease the 2 stitches.
9. Continue to knit the waistband as a tube, for the length required to tie up the skirt.
10. Link the open section of the waistband to the skirt 1 stitch in from each side.
Voilà!

Hi Elena,

I’m interested in using this method of partial knitting to create a ruff collar but with elastic how many needles would you recommend casting on if I will be using elastic.

Love this technique! I just have one tiny question: How many partially knitted "segment/repeats" did you do for the waist? 80, like you said at 4:53?
