As a 3D artist it is important ( in my opinion ) to understand the principles of photography and in this video I will explain why.

Yes you should know cameras for 3D (especially when you do film work).
You also need to know that scale is very important for proper camera physics; your near and far focus area is based on real world distances. Same goes for sensor size, which is paramount to know. Because smaller sensors produce less bokeh (more of the image is in focus -- which also goes for wide angle lenses on full frame btw).

So yeah, you need to REALLY know cameras in order to produce anything that can somewhat integrate into a real shot or do something remotely photorealstic.

I find it hard to imagine that there are 3D artists that don't consider the parallels to photography. Coming from Blender, I think having a built-in compositer has spoiled me!

This one is awesome! I played a bith with MAya camera a while back trying to figure out how to focus it on an object and then have other things blurred but for some reason it didnt work as i expected (it looked as if the exact point was in focus but everything even guite near was waaay out of it. And after a while i just gave up). I gues ill have to fiddle with it a bit more. Will there mabe be a more extended video about this in the future?
