The Samaritans are one of the most ancient tribes in the world - they’ve been around for over 3,000 years. But the population is now fragile and the tribe at risk of finally dying out...

Their population consists of just four extended families, around only 800 people in total (in Roman times there used to be over a million). They have three men to every one woman. To keep the tribe going they’ve tried bringing in women from afar, including a number from the Ukraine. But is it too little, too late?

Where did all the women go. In human populations there is about a 51-49% excess of males to females. Where was the interviewer's intellectual curiosity?

That young samaritan guy is quite chill. He reminds me somehow to Grigor dimitrov hah i guess both of them are kinda laid-back and chill

Sometimes algorithms read brains. I was literally thinking yesterday "are there people who still identify as Samaritans"?

If anyone has a right to claim Israeli land, it's these ppl
I'm shocked Israel allowed them to relocate like that

4 families? What? There are like 800 Samaritans in both Israel and Palestine. That is way more than 4 families.
Also, Samaritans and Jews broke off not even 200 years after the 13 tribes united in a single religion. They had a serious hate-rift between them for a thousand years, until both were subdued by Romans. Had they stayed friends and with an alliance, maybe today the region would have stayed a Hebraic/Mossaic (Judaism/Samaritanism) faith instead of Islamic or Christian.

Why do they marry with eastern European women instead of ones closer to them that might be genetically closer to their tribe?

Women don't just disappear like that, there's a reason for the shortage of women... 🤔🤔

I hadn’t realised a Samaritan can marry a non-Samaritan!

There is a famous television Israeli television personality called Sofi Tsedaka, and I remember hearing several years ago that she had converted to Judaism from Samaritan. I really wonder the reason there are three men for every one woman. In other countries that have this problem, it is because female fetuses were aborted due to the preference for male children. I cannot imagine this could happen in such a highly religious community. In nature, female fetuses and babies are stronger, so this imbalance is very unnatural. Could it be solely due to attrition of woman not wanting the restraints of a traditional Samaritan life?

This is amazing to find a group of people with neutral minds existing in the holy land

Well, bring in women would have been my first thought too. We have tribes in the Americas that have died out too. Its always a loss to the world. I hope they survive
