HCG is a hormone produced during pregnancy and is the hormone used to test for pregnancy

An hCG level of less than 5 mIU/mL is considered negative for pregnancy, anything above 25 mIU/mL is considered positive for pregnancy. Sensitive pregnancy test like AccuMed pregnancy tests can detect levels of HCG as low as 25mIU/mL in urine

Most sensitive tests will pick up positive hcg level around the time of your missed period (when your 4 weeks pregnant)

Testing HCG levels can be used to guestimate how far along a pregnancy is if women hasn’t had a period, has irregular periods, or doesn’t know when their LMP was. This happened to me after I stopped breastfeeding, I barely had a period but the doctor wanted to make sure I was 8 weeks before having me come in for an appointment. HCG levels per week can vary so much from person to person and the ranges are broad.

Typically doctors will have you do a series of hcg level tests to check your levels and see how fast they are increasing.

So when you get your results look at the chart and see where you fall. Keep in mind when comparing results that in a typical pregnancy the hcg levels within the first four weeks of a viable pregnancy, double about every two to three days. After six weeks, the levels will double about every 96 hours.

Levels peaks during the first 8 to 11 weeks of pregnancy, then decline and plateau.

This gauge is not full proof. My numbers were 19,000 at week 5 and 44,000 at week 6. There are also some factors that can sway your tests.

- [ ] Ectopic pregnancy may present with rising, falling or plateau β-hCG levels; thus, serial measurement is most useful to confirm fetal viability rather than to identify ectopic pregnancy.

- [ ] Miscarriage usually has slowly rising or falling HCG levels

- [ ] An hCG level that is 30%-50% higher than a standard singleton pregnancy could mean a twin pregnancy

I just took my first HCG blood test 1/4/23 and it was 96. I had 2 miscarriages already. I lost my 2nd pregnancy on Dec 6, 2022 and 2 weeks later I got pregnant again. She wanted to test within another week from my first one on 1/4. So on 1/13 I took another blood work and she had to call me herself☺️ to deliver the news. My levels went from 96 to 4, 819 within a week and I was 5 weeks when I took the 2nd test! That's a big jump! You think it may be more than one?

Just had my embryo transfer on Aug 15th and had my beta HCG blood test today. Came back as 22.1. I can say I am definitely nervous because my first IVF transfer was 90. Testing again Saturday and hoping it at the very least doubles! 🙏

I got my period march 12-17th and a week later I began spotting and my breasts were sore so I took a test and every one came out positive . The doctor saw nothing on the ultrasound . Last pregnancy my levels were kinda funny, after I tested positive on a urine test I went in for blood work immediately due to being high risk for ectopic because we had a tubal reversal… first HCG confused my dr because it wasn’t even a 5. Went in for 2 weeks every other day, numbers went 3, 8, 13, 24 34 then shot up to 90, 000 in 48hrs . Dr sent me straight to ER was sure I was having an ectopic. When I got there Dr on call was sure as well so he got me on an IV and mentally prepared me for possible surgery. Of course they made us do an ultrasound before and during ultrasound the tech looked at us and said you guys have a perfect sack with a perfect fetal pole and in the perfect spot this baby isn’t going anywhere, she is 2 now. Just found out we are pregnant with reversal baby number 2, 4days before my missed period went in for blood work same day and count was 24, 48 hours later it was 70. I was getting bummed out because I see so many 4 week mommas with counts in the 300-500’s but still remember how crazy my numbers were with Blessings so I’m definitely using that experience to stay positive go back tomorrow for my 3rd round of blood test, dr says as soon as I hit 1200 he will send me in for ultrasound to make sure baby made it safely to the uterus❤

I went in for a Pap smear on July 17th and spotted the morning of but I thought I was just starting my period. It never came so I took a test on July 21 and pregnancy test lit up positive. Made an apt for August 14. I began spotting on August 2nd and freaked out. They did a test and ultra sound but couldn’t see anything at all. They took my blood before I left and called me the next day to tell me my level is 1, 428 and will have to check me again tomorrow. I’m so worried because the spotting hasn’t stopped but it hasn’t Increased and it’s a dark brown color with a little stringy. I was told it could be just too early. I was fine until the spotting, now my dr freaked me out saying since there’s is no sac, nothing, it can be ectopic.

LMP was April 7th thought I was about 7 weeks this Monday when I went in but only measured at 5weeks 1 day HCG levels are 3, 968 and my progesterone is 5.5 I have only done the first blood test second one tomorrow but will have results til Monday 🙃I’m scared. Because the progesterone is low I had a miscarriage at about 8 weeks in this January and my HCG level was about 150. this is so stressful and hard. I’m trying to stay calm but google is telling me that it may not be viable because of the low progesterone

The doctor tested me she said I had a faint positive, I went in for hcg blood test it was 26 I came home and tested again and I also had a faint positive but she called me today and said I am not pregnant which doesn’t make any sense ?? 😓
