I hear you brother but most of us aren’t in the position to buy a new car

I own one, XC90 T8 R design 2018. I bought second hand (out of warranty) but barely used (17, ×××km). It's very good car and value for money if you buy it as a second hand. So far so good.

The money you lose via depreciation may outweigh money lot in repairs.

Bought one for my wife in 2020 with 62, 000 miles on it and has had no issue just regular maintenance. One of the best decisions I've made. Now the car is going on 70, 000 and still no issues

I have a V60 2019 and a V40 2017. The V60 is on a leasing that includes servicing, the V40 I purchased the oldfashioned way. I cant say that I have a lot of issues with these cars, and I do drive app 45.000km/year. But for the future, I will always lease, as it gives me peace of mind. I have owned many brands, and all have their issues. What matters, is how the workshop handles it.

Many software issues remain and they can’t solve them. I can give you some examples for you to test on your own car.

Every person who buys new cars ... is just loving piece of mind and ignoring the ridiculous amount of depreciation. Also every time I bought a warranty with a car I never spent as much on repairs as I did on the warranty... again you’re paying for “peace of mind” but the reality is most warranties do not cover any of the maintenance... so what’s the point ?

Problems with my 2017 XC90 D5 inscription so far ~30000km:
1) Water leaking in front right light, €2000 for one light unit (covered by warranty).
2) Back doors wouldn't open and/or close if temp was below zero due to poor water insulation, change of locks on back door. (Covered by warranty).
3) diesel pre-heater not working, service + new battery, €350 not covered by warranty.
4) Power pulse repair, covered by warranty.
5) A general recall due to the engine issue related to the EGR.
Also rattling noises and trim bits not being fixed correctly.
My warranty just expired in April this year and now I'm to scared to keep the car 😬

Kris, I would like to see a video on the XC90 electronic glitches and qwerks. I have a bunch of them that I can share.

Cars have so much tech that repair bills soon mount up. I had a Lexus RX450h and one day the boot wouldn’t open. It was in for repair for sometime as the mechanics couldn’t find the problem. Eventually they replaced a pcb and charged me £1000. I also had a very low mileage BMW 116. It kept cutting out and BMW replaced various sensors but it started happening again, nobody seemed to be able to trace the fault so I had to sell it at a low price. I am thinking my current XC60 should be swapped when the warranty runs out.

I haven't bought a used XC90 but I did buy a new 2019. At only 5000 miles / 8000 km the compressor pump for the air suspension went out. The dealer got me in that day and replaced the part under warranty with zero cost to me all in the same day and gave me a free loaner car while they were working on it (about 3 hours). I was surprised at how quick that went bad, but was very happy with how my Volvo dealer resolved the problem. Fingers crossed that was not a sign of bad things to come because I really do love my XC90.

Purchased a 2017 Momentum 56, 400 miles three months ago. Love the drive feel and handling but starting to question the reliability. I had the dealership do 60, 000 mile service which also included new spark plugs. Two weeks later got stuck at a store it wouldn’t start needed a new starter. Now a week later check engine light on my reader saying possible oxygen sensor code P0137 and another code. Taking to a specialist tomorrow instead of the dealership. Wondering if I should trade it in getting worried about reliability.

I got myself a lease return 2018 XC90. The car itself came with a warranty till 2024 or 160k kms and extended it by 2 more years and got the protection package. The dealer was good so got a good discounted price for both these things. So everythings covered. Fingers crossed.
