Why are so many Westerners and Europeans such as Americans, Canadians, British, French, Germans, Scandinavians, Russians, Australians and others moving to Thailand in the past several decades? Well, in addition to the fascinating culture, history and scenery, Thailand provides many benefits for Western expats that they may not have in their home nations such as a cheap cost of living and healthcare. If you're an expat in Thailand or thinking of moving there just be careful to follow all the local laws and customs, respect the local Buddhist and Thai culture as the consequences of not doing so may be far more stark than you are used to. i know the west is going downhill .but i was there in 1997 2004 and 2011 and it was not good. in 1997 and 2004 i was almost eaten by dogs that looked like mutants there were a lot of beggars chasing us the pollution was out of control. but i noticed it did get way better every time i went so maybe its like Switzerland now .in 1997 they didn't know what a video game was but in 2011 they did have video games.... from 1997 and a lot of people had phones and computers and the roads got better .while in my own country things slowly get worse more crime worse public transport less freedom. i should go back to compare them because i don't trust all these hyper positive travel vloggers that never complain about anything . but the country should be much better now if they kept improving at that pace
