Shaq turns down boy's handshake for something better

When a boy walked up to Shaquille O'Neal at a basketball game, he extended his hand for a shake. But the former NBA player turned him down for something better – a hug.

Back in the day when Jordan was making millions off shoes, shaq, in the prime of his career, told the shoe companies that he never wanted his shoes sold for more than 32 dollars, the number on his jersey. He said it was so young poor kids could afford to wear his shoes. i was one of those kids who wore those shoes. shaq is a great dude

I confess, I'm not a basketball fan, and paid essential no attention to Mr. O'Neal when he was playing but, without fail, everything I have seen and heard about him since, speaks very well for the man, and this gesture just reinforces that. I don't think you could put a price on that sort of interaction if you had to. It is so authentic, so instantly natural, that this boy will remember that hug for the rest of his life.

The great thing about it, is that this man is like this whether there are cameras or not. I worked at a hotel he was staying at, and he was nicest guy to the staff and to other guests that came up to him. I will always root for him

About 55 years ago I stood at the back of a crowd of kids hoping for autographs at Shea Stadium. I was 6-7 kids deep, small, and had no hope of getting near the rail. Sandy Koufax reached over the crowd of kids, took my autograph book and signed it. I was so damn happy and remember it as if it was yesterday. This lucky kid will carry that Shaq hug with him the rest of his life. Such Joy.
