I remember Putin poncing about on stage arrogantly telling the world he could freeze Europe. But its only Russia's energy sector collapsing, and only Russian people who are freezing this winter 🔥

I'm no supporter of Islamists but I will say that al-Joulani received the visiting female politician graciously.

HOW I echo the comments below; ..Gold. Informed by long long experience, clearly. We must keep Syria in our thoughts and hope so much it works for them.

So, people are saying the West is oh so bad for wanting to cooperate with the new regime (like the old regime was so great). Listen. We in the West is tired of having to be the world police.
1. HTS and other rebel groups won the civil war.
2. The Syrians are in general, supportive of the new regieme.
3. The regime is not a threat to the west.
These 3 points are all I need. Let us in the West open up for business with Syria. It's time to look to the future and leave the past behind. Syria has agriculture and petroleum they can export to Europe, and we in Europe have machinery/construction materials the Syrians need to rebuild, medicine etc. Lets go!

A heart warming report from Hamish, it truly is time for peace and democracy in this region. Let’s hope and prey for this .

I very much hope his optimism is warranted! We can all need a good outlook to 2025 with conflicts getting settled across multiple lines, bringing safety to the people and nations.

Good on you Hamish for getting out there on the ground. It's so refreshing having watched closely these past four years so many annalists giving there thoughts and kind of thinking how close to the action are they? Arm Chair annalists, the fact you have gone. Good on ya mate.

Great to see Hamish back, one of few decent guest that doesn't support liberal delusional speaking points and understands the global players.

I saw a blurb that claimed the new leadership of Syria gave orders for the revolutionaries to refrain from firing their weapons into the air gratuitously. This, more than anything gave me a little hope for them.
