No matter what type of foundation you have, you will want to dig a trench approximately six by six inches against the foundation around the entire structure.
Apply a professional grade termiticide such as Taurus SC in the trench, according to label directions, using a poly sprayer. Once complete, backfill. This will create a chemical barrier to prevent termite from entering the structure from the exterior.
Next, we can install Red Eye Termite Stations. This will help us monitor and control termite activity around the home. We want to install these in areas that are conducive to termites. Place them eight to ten feet apart, out away from the drip edge of the house. Inspecting the stations is very simple. Once a month, we want to see if the red eye is still visible through the clear view window on top of the station.
The red eye is connected to a wooden post within the body of the station. As the termites eat the wood, the red eye drops out of view. So, if the red eye is gone, that is a sign you have termite activity.
At that point, you will want to inject Fipro aerosol into the station. It is a foam that will kill termites on contact. The longer inject the foam, the deeper it goes into the termite galleries.
Now we can move on to the inside.
Formosan termites not only nest in the ground but also above ground in areas where there is adequate moisture. So it’s important that during our inspection process that we identify the specific area where a carton or nest is located.
To create the carton, Formosan termites use dirt, feces, and other material and they also produce a substance that’s almost like a glue that hold it all together within walls. The purpose of this carton is to create an increased humid and moist environment to sustain the termites.
The location of the carton can be identified by discoloration of sheetrock or it being moist and soft to the touch.
Once we have identified where the carton is located, we will want to remove the sheetrock and expose the inside of the wall. We will remove the carton, repair damaged wood, and treat any termite galleries with FiPro aerosol foam. We can also use FiPro in voids around windows, doors, or fireplaces.
