Things in the UK that Confuse Me: TAPS

It's either scalding hot or freezing cold, NO IN BETWEEN! Okay, not every tap is like this, but there are enough in England for it to confuse me. More UK culture shock videos on my page :)

Fun fact, the reason for the separate taps is because in a lot of places, there is a hot water storage tank which is not considered clean drinking water and therefore can not mix pipes with the cold system. At least, that's what I've heard.

usually in ppls houses you get just one tap that changes but in like restaurants and stuff u get two different taps and it’s SO annoying 😂

I normally freeze my hands in the cold which allow me to then put my hands under the scolding water for longer before third degree burns happen

I grew up in an old house in the US and had two taps. Your supposed to put the plug in and fill the sink up. I’m glad to have a mixer now.

I've been in the UK over a decade and still find this ridiculous! Whenever I'm renting a flat I try to avoid that predicament as much as possible! Its simple archaic.

If I put the hot on a bit and let it get warm and then turn the cold on it normally cool the hot tap down

Brit here! Just put the plug in the sink, run some water and mix it with your hands until you reach the desired temp.

It was specifically designed to keep tourists out of the country, or if they did come at least they would be incapacitated by severe burns

You think "i want warm" so then you go for the hot tap and then its boiling and your skin is burning so you go for the cold tab and its ice cold so your hand burns in a new way :)

You do get taps for different temps, they’re just not as common

If you can be bothered just put the plug in and mix the water together and give your hands a little bath 😁
