In this clip, Dr. William Lane Craig responds to a short clip from comedian Ricky Gervais. In it, Ricky claims that he rejects the Christian God for the same reasons that Christians reject other gods.

Btw, I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter. I don’t know anyone that is teaching their 5 year old that homosexuals in particular will be sent to hell forever. First of all, she has no grasp of those concepts. She’s 5. She doesn’t know what eternity is. She doesn’t know what sex is. It would require lots of work to get her to understand the point, and she’s advanced for her age. I don’t doubt that many Christians teach their older children about what they think the Bible teaches about the subject, but 5 is entirely too young. That’s what we responded to. What’s more, I grew up in a pretty fundamentalist home and we were never sat down and taught this. We learned in church what sins there were and then learned what the consequences of sin were, but it was never this event of being sat down and told that homosexuals will burn in Hell forever (let alone at the age of 5).

Conversion therapy is a separate issue.

Moreover, I also pointed out that it’s a caricature of Christian theology.

I was told in my late teens I was going to hell, basically for being a bit on the naughty side. Promiscuous sex, smoking weed and complete embarrassment of my fundamentalist parents were my crimes from what I can remember. I think by the time I was 15 I had my Ghandi epiphany, I had no problem with this guy Jesus but despised Christians, they were complete hypocrites in my experience. I embraced Zen Buddhism and evolution around 19 years old, helped with being screamed at daily about how bad I was, there is a lot that happened to me during the next decade of living for myself, but it wasn't until around 30, broken and desperate, I tried to understand the gospel and realised I didn't actually understand its significance - when I did it blew me away. Life hasn't got easier, I'm not as popular as I once was but even though I have materially little, deep down I feel like I have everything. Even my worst days cannot overcome me. I felt that liberation from fundamentalism in my teens so I understand atheists that go that route, but that freedom doesn't compare to the freedom found in the true gospel, the salvation of Jesus Christ.

Am I the only one who thinks that WLC when explaining why he doesnt believe in other Gods, he simply said “I have arguments for that” but didnt said anything at the end.

When they said they've never heard of a Christian parent telling their kids they're going to hell for being gay, that surprised me. I live in the Bible belt where most people think that way and I hear adults say it all the time. Many of my gay friends live in fear of their families finding out.

Christian beliefs: "Holy crap dude! Some guy says he's Christ! Son of God! He performed countless miracles in front of thousands of people! He fulfilled all the prophecies in scripture about him! We tried to prove him wrong but couldn't!"

Muslim beliefs: "Some random warlord says God gave him the REAL truth. By the way, our guy didn't do any miracles, doesn't have an proof for what he says and what he says is the complete opposite of what Jesus Christ said."

I have to call out WLC on his strawman here. Stalin did not commit those atrocities in the name of atheism. There is no equivalence here.

"It teaches that unrepentant sinners send themselves to hell" - Erm that's just word games aimed at absolving God from the decision. Who set things up so that the result of "sin " is ending up in hell? God. So God does send people to hell. That's just an attempt at whitewashing the situation.

Telling your 5-year-old child that Hell is a real place to which they might go is NOT child abuse if hell is real. You're shifting the argument to an emotional one, when the question is--is the Lake of Fire a real place or not? If it is, NOT warning your child about it and encouraging them to be saved is child abuse.
