Why Israel lost the 2006 Lebanon War - The Dahiyeh Doctrine | The Big Picture

During Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 2006, its generals realised they couldn’t fight Hezbollah on the ground.

So they resorted to a campaign of psychological warfare: “The Dahiyeh Doctrine”.

If it inflicted enough damage on the Lebanese people, Israel believed they would rise up and overthrow their rulers.

But it didn’t work, and despite ultimately losing the war, Israel would continue to implement this strategy in every conflict, especially in Gaza.

And now that it’s invading Lebanon once again, it’s resorting to the same brutal tactics.

This week on The Big Picture, we examine why Israel lost the 2006 Lebanon War, and why it’s repeating the very same mistakes today.

It failed in Vietnam, it failed in Iraq, it failed in Afghanistan. When will they learn, attacking civilians would only reinforce the ideas that YOU are a threat?

If a civilian was divided before you intervened, by making their life a lot harder, amd shittier than their current government, congratulations. You have achieved unification, but against YOU.

Using the same tactics again in Palestine and Lebanon will never work out to their favour. If it failed three times in the past, trying them again TWICE is just mind-blowing.

because they had to fight actual soldiers with guns, not babies.

This was in 2006 and I literally have no knowledge about this, but the way the Israelis are "fighting" the Hezbollah is very much the same way they fought the war against Hezbollah almost 2 decades ago. They really haven't learned.

Look at (15:13) the small number of countries voting against the U.N. resolution. Half of them are these tiny pacific islands: Palau, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Fiji. Pretty sure they are dependent on U.S. funding.

This is a great brief history of Israel's decades of escalation. In other forums, I have likened Israel's behavior to that of a serial killer — persistent escalation enabled by the absence of any effective constraint. The serial killer escalates in pursuit of a fantasized satisfying outcome. But that outcome is never reached, so escalation continues. For decades Israel has escalated while facing nothing more than some vague doubts raised by the US and European nations. Israel has escalated like a serial killer. It is worse than a terrorist state, it is a serial killer state.

The D-doctrine hasn't been a successful deterrence anywhere. What's the definition of insanity?

Wish you had highlighted the occupation and genocide of Palestinians in Sabra & Shatilla in southern Lebanon. Not to forget, but for Hisbollah Israel would have annexed southern Lebanon just like Golan peaks.

This guy seems kind of knowledgeable, but he kind of deceives his viewers. He should allow people to know that hizballah did not enter Syria to fight for Bashar, but entered Syria to fight Isis as well as other foreign countries that supported Isis.
