Review of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and ASUS ZenBook S 16 laptop. This is the best of x86 so far but is it enough to beat out the ARM competition?

Wait weren't we just told ARM is everything and x86 sucks? I'm so confused.

The speaker is better than the Mac book

I may be wrong, excuse me if I am, but the igpu in the eta prime testing showed to be in some cases 30% faster. I hope final drivers fix everything and we see some really good performance improvements. Can't wait to see the next generation of handheld APUs.

Did Asus get some sort of AMD launch exclusive?
All the reviews I've seen today are the Zenbook S 16.

Really appreciate you includes Mozilla Firefox compile time test in your review. As software engineer that's what we looking for and care about, and maybe some gaming, 3D rendering and photoshop stuff for design, where apple silicon still the beast to beat. Cinebench are heavily optimize for windows and x86 cpu, doesn't mean that much. Still prefer geekbench and speedometer score for general productivity tasks and responsiveness.

Uh.. the Zenbook S 16 is running at 28W while most other devices you’re comparing to is running at 50W. Even the ROG Ally is 45W.

There are 50W laptops with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 that are releasing, but Zenbook S 16 isn’t it.

>Is it snapdragon x elite impressive?
Based on 2-3 other reviews i've just read through performance per watt for the ryzen is kind of matching the x elite in multicore if both are set to the same powerlimits

Snapdragon is still a big red flag with Windows/Software compatibility ... I'd take this any day over one of those.

What. You are comparing gpu performance at different resolutions?

I was honestly hoping to see a significant performance increase with iGPU, like get closer to low tier dGPU, at least close to low wattage 3050

This is the only review which says there is no difference between 780m. All other reviews like Anandtech, Tomsguide, Hot Hardware etc. says there is big jump about gaming performance. There must be something wrong.

Zenbook have higher volumn and crispy sound, and MacBook sound more nature and true to life. Still prefer sound from macbook air 15, but for windows laptop is a huge improvements.

Thanks for the review Matt. The Snapdragon laptops are so appealing these days that it's hard to get excited about any of the x86 offerings.

mmmm Strange... ETA Prime had the igpu of this laptop radeon 890M coming in at 30% perfomance boost over the z1 extreme radeon 780M he did however have a 32gb ram model and allocated 8 GB of ram to video memory in the bios though, so it might have been a memory related thing i'd be curious to know what you guys did different because if ETA prime is right game changing perfomance is on the horizon for handhleds.
typo it was 8GB

The battery life might be impacted by ASUS deciding to use the MediaTek wi-fi 7 BT 5.4 chipset

Deciding between this or the MSI Prestige AI EVO. Mostly productivity work and school work, probably no gaming. Need a lightweight 15-16 inch screen. Preferences?
