Writing ionic equations has a set of steps to follow. Pretty simple to remember and with ample practise, this would be a simple concept to grasp. so what are the steps?

Prior to starting with Step 1, always check if the give. equation is balanced, and if all the state symbols are given.

Step 1: Break down all Aqueous compounds into their respective ions.

Step 2: Cancel out all the spectator ions (common ions) [Spectator ions are ions that are found in both sides of an equation and are considered to be non participating ions in the reaction.]

Step 3: Write out the remaining ions and compounds in the equation.

So it is as simple as that. Just 3 steps to follow and you would never go wrong! Do share these steps with your friends and have fun studying chemistry!
