Twenty years after Zimbabwe’s controversial land reform policy, when thousands of white farmers were forcibly evicted, some are returning to the land as tenants of Black owners.
As Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa reports from Mashonaland East province, the government hopes their return will boost production amid warnings that millions of Zimbabweans are facing food shortages.

In other words Zimbabwes finally admit what a disaster it’s been and they hope the white farmers can fix it.... my advice is to stay away from this mess.

...meanwhile, neighbouring countries who gave land and sanctuary to the exiled white farmers, are now reaping the benefits of high food production, good employment for locals and a thriving economy. The new Zimbabwe government have tried to entice the farmers back, but most have decided to stay in their new countries. This is what happens when you break a trust.

My father inlaw lost his farm in Zim, he had 60 workers, had hundreds of thousands in equipment, he went back to see the land recently, the house was stripped, land barren, works gone.

The bread basket of Africa disappeared when Mugabe decided to seize the land of white farmers, essentially forcing them out of the country. After Mugabe not much has happened, the former white farmers of Zimbabwe have started anew elsewhere, such as in Australia. With corruption and poor decisions by the government I doubt that the former bread basket will be restored anytime soon.

If it was me, I would never go back where I was thrown out. Too much painful memories.

A lot of these guys have moved to Australia, where their agricultural know-how is useful and appreciated by their new country.

Zimbabwe: **Takes away white farmers farms and gives them away**
Zimbabwe: **Loses 50% of all crop production**

Those farmers should not go back. Let the country that kicked them suffer for their dumb ways.

You got the land because the Zimbabwean government slaughtered farmers and stole the land from them.

I think white farmers should have waited a few years longer to return, just to make sure they really learned their lesson.

They must be crazy to go back. They will get it going again and be thrown off again. Contracts are worthless with a lawless government

If I were a white Rhodesian or South African farmer. I would head to South America. The latin countries would appreciate you.

If I was a white farmer who was kicked of my land I wouldn't waste a single second considering returning.

These farmers are nuts.
They wanted independent.
Let them figure it out.

Don't go back. They made their bed, let them lay in it and starve.

In Zimbabwe there is a saying: Rhodesia showed the world what Afrika could be, Mugabe showed the world what Afrika really is.

Are you sure about going back? They did it once, they will likely do it again. This is Africa we're talking about. They (quite often) do not learn from their mistakes.
