Everyone plays games for different reasons, so the different genres naturally differ in priorities too. I for one love narrative-heavy games with simple to boring-ish gameplay - I'm very clumsy, so it's easier and more fun for me that way. And I appreciate the immersion and influence a game offers me as opposed to a book. But that's just taste, I can understand as well how others prefer games with challenging gameplay. :3 That doesn't make any genre bad - just different.

In half life 1 you put a foreign object into a Anti-Mass Spectrometer, given to you by the mysterious character known as Gman. The testing causes what is known in fiction as a resonance cascade, which opened a portal to the alien planet of Zen. Again you see the complex nature of the Gman. Then you go through complex puzzle solving, complex enemy encounters. Half life is also the first game to have the story be told in real time, without the use of cutscenes.

This game looks beautiful, and I'm a massive fan of adventure games, but I just don't know if I can justify paying $30 for it.

Did you even read my comment? I said i hate games that focus on making amazing storys, but fail at making compelling gameplay. Beside, i was discussing Half life and other games in general, not this game, with that user, and how games need to have gameplay focused on first. And i don't really give a fuck if you dislike Half life or not. It's one of the most groundbreaking and influential games in history. It changed gaming forever, whether you like it or not.

Oh and the vortigant, being free of their oppressive master from the first game, decide to join the humans in their struggle. Just in case you were wondering why the one eyed aliens decided to help you. And for you to think that half life is just a run and gun "shoot teh bad guyz" kinda game. Then that is just completely ignorant.

Then in half life 2, you are enlisted by the mysterious gman, to help save the human race, after killing the main boss at the end of half life 1, his death opened up hundreds of portals around the universe, which a alien race known as the combine go through one of them. A 7 hour war happens and humans surrender to the combine, enslaving humanity. And again there's alot of stuff still need explaining, which is why it's complex. And if that is not complex to you, idk what the fuck is.

You're missing the point thoe, HL is interesting because it's so mysterious, i don't want everything handed to me on a fucking silver platter, leave some shit to the imagination, thats why gordan doesn't talk, valve did that so that "you" the player, could experience it, as if it was you. That why HL is such a great game series, cause it doesn't hold your hand, or treat you like a baby. It may not be the most complex thing ever, but there's some complexity in the story and the gameplay.

If you hate all adventure games merely because of the style of gameplay, then why the hell are you here? I, for one, find Half Life 1 and 2 to be boring brown shooters, so I don't know what you're on about by complaining about this game (or being here in the first place) while saying that Half Life is awesome--especially when it's not comparable to adventure games as a genre anyway.

Comparing an open world 3rd person shooter from 2010.
To a linear first person shooter from 1998 and
It's about as fucking stupid as saying Ocarina of time is better than Pong.

A great plot, or amazing graphics, don't make up for shitty unfun gameplay. I have and always will be a gameplay guy. I don't care how amazing stories get, or how amazing graphics get. If a game isn't fun to play, then i don't waste my time. Cause when it comes down to it, having fun is really all that matters.
