I don't buy the expensive argument. A pound or two of frozen broccoli is cheaper than a box of frozen Twinkies. As a person that does a lot of grocery shopping, it is cheaper to eat healthy than eat badly. But it is much, much harder to make broccoli taste good than to make a Twinkie taste good. That is the bigger barrier than cost. Every time I diet and buy groceries, I save money from eating processed foods. But it does take substantially more time in the kitchen and more skill to make healthier food taste good. I don't think cost is the problem in the food environment and the most usable excuse because claiming you're too poor is an excuse everyone accepts with not pushback. But I know for a fact that isn't true because I shop all the time and know that there is plenty of healthy food far cheaper than processed foods. So the main cause for not cooking is skill and time.
