Just ran across your video, Pretty slick, Thanks. Working on doing that to my 1984ish RF-30. Completed the DRO on mine last year. Later from Texas.

I dont know anything other than having seen a few of these round column fixes. Im not sure why these were made as round columns in the first place, but the only advantage seems to be the ability to rotate the head left and right. All these fixes get rid if that ability. So it seems the actual fix is to make the column not round! Wouldn’t attaching a key, by welding or bolting on, and keyway on the head fix the problem in a more solid way than adding rods?

Seems to me your dial indicator will put you back at zero without much fussing around .

I don't know why people attempt to make a silk purse out of a Sow's ear when real mills are available for the same mill designs are not intended to move the head up or down once the height has been set..
