Can a person be allergic to the sun? - Dr. Rasya Dixit

The term photo dermatitis means skin which became irritated because of light which is a light induced skin problem. Sunlight has two kinds of rays UVA and UVB, photo dermatitis happens even on a cloudy day because UV radiation penetrates the cloud cover and reaches the earth even on a cloudy day. For example even in a shade you are exposed to UV radiation and it also window penetrative so you are not safe even inside a window. There are various kinds of photo dermatitis, we usually see people complaining about an irritation or rash and this is just basic sun sensitivity. This could be the beginning of the light dermatitis called polymorphism light eruption these can be present on face, neck, back, on the shoulders and also seen on arms. They are not seen in the covered areas of the body. Sometimes people develop sudden light sensitivity this is because they have started any new anti-biotic or pain killer which could make their skin a little bit more sensitive to sun we call this photo toxic reactions or allergic reactions, in such situations you need to go back to your doctor for suggestions. The other thing is people use certain cosmetics which have perfume in them and they might be sensitizing your skin and once you notice it that after using that product you are getting rashes and they become more when exposed to sun. So in all these situations best is to meet your gynecologist and get diagnosed.

When ever I exposed to sunlight...
The skin will becomes red on the exposed part like on hands.. Face.. I just feel like burning on that parts... And after some time... The skin becomes normal ...if I come to shead...

i also have serious problem. if i stay in sun for 10 15 mins some smal redl circle arises then if i strack it starts to transfer all over my body it itches lot.. i ve visited many skin doc still they cant find reason .. i cant enjoy in sun :(

I dont use any cosmetic or medicines still my exposed skin gets all red and swells and gets itchy, it feels warm too
This happens when i stay in direct sunlight for more than 15mins, nothing happens in 10mins.

Jab me sunlight me jaata hu to थोड़ी देर तक तो कुछ प्रॉबलम नहीं होती
लेकिन जैसे ही 10-15 मिनट होते है, मुझे अचानक से (तेज खुजली )
होने लगती है, और पूरे शरीर पर छोटे- छोटे, लाल लाल दाने निकल आते है
और जब में sunlight se hat jaata hu to थोड़ी ही देर में बंद हो जाता h .
मेरी ये प्रॉबलम दो मौसम में नहीं होती,
1:- या तो खूब ठंडी हो (और या तो)
2:- खूब गर्मी हो
ये जो सर्दी और गर्मी के मिलेजुले मौसम है ना उसमे ही मुझे ये प्रॉबलम होती है.

I don't know if I'm allergic or if I have lupus. At 44 my hair is falling out and the past 10 years my body hurts, but in the past two years I can't go out into the sun. It gives me hives or reactions. I don't have the open sores that you would typically see on someone with lupus. I thought maybe it was a grass allergy but after this last time I broke out I realized it was the Sun. I've been having some severe stomach cramping for no reason and my joints hurt constantly and I don't have arthritis. This has been a nightmare as I don't understand what my body is doing to itself. My hair falling out in large amounts is terrifying because I've always had thick beautiful hair. Now I'm almost bald on top my hair is very thin on top and I believe if my hair wasn't so thick I would be bald. If anyone has an idea please let me know.

I have a serious skin problem but only during winter. Whenever I goes in sunlight my skin gets rashes all over the body and a tremendous itching begin to happen but only in winters not in summer. ma'am suggest me something it's a humble request

It's only remedy is after exposer of sun light u have to wash with cool water until the skin cool down. I am trying this every day. I cannot stay half second also in sun.sudenly if I expose to sun i did the same above.hope u understand 3very one.but after coming rash on skin can any one say the remedy how i get rid of that rash

Mam i have been suffering from
PLE (PHOTOMORPHIC LIGHT ERRUPTION/SUNBURN ALLERGY).
I get acne(causing itching, fuild like acne also), extra senstive skin, frequently get tanned, causing uneven skin tone,
So what should i do now . I have been consulting different doctors, but didnt get any satisfactory treatment it "reoccur " even during treatment ... They are giving me steriods which i can feel its affecting my body too😐

i am wearing full sleeves cotton dress, using umbrella but nothing can relief me from itching .

I am having this disease around 7 years. I have consult a few dermatologist, one said that there is no cure for this except the nature. I have went through stress for a long time and now it's get familiar. But still I don't go in a sunlight without covering my body.

My Father has a strange body alergy. He can't go in sun or outside.. if he came in sun light, his body become rashes and he start itching on hand then legs and then on whole body, if it continues his heart beat become fast and three times he unconscious and then start vomiting.. after all this he feel relax if sudden first aid give to him.. but it was not as before when he was 60 years. This all start after 60 years.. now he is 72 years and bearing this strange allergy.. we have consulted many doctors but doctors can't understand this type of allergy.. I am from Pakistan
