The best film never to win an Oscar. Never really knew why.

Christian bale has been a superb actor for all his life.

Even in Christian Bale's unbelievably packed film career, this scene still ranks among the best performances he's ever given. I can't watch this scene without tearing up at least three different times.

The pilots were Ray Hanna, Mark Hanna (Ray's son) and ‘Hoof’ Proudfoot. The pilot in the flyby, waving, is Ray and that is real. Three amazing pilots.

The smile on the boy's face when the pilot waves is priceless.Made me cry.

Probably the finest performance by a child in cinematic history and one John Williams criminally underrated scores

One of the most powerful scenes in cinema I've ever witnessed. Imagine how anyone would feel when his countrymen and allies appear out of the blue to pound their enemies. You know for certain you are not lost and you are not forgotten. It fills one with hope when all else is gone.

"I can't remember what my parents look like..." This scene got to me even as a kid, now having kids of my own it hits me on such an emotional scale. Superb acting all round.

My Father owned a P-51 Mustang, he flew it in airshow. I was so excited when he took me up and did 7 snap rolls. The best ride of my life, I'm glad I had a bag to throw up in.

You'd have to watch a hell of a lot of films, & still fail to find a scene as powerful as this. Absolutely brilliant

My heart stops at 1:20 every time, what a beauty!, that slow motion pass is breathtaking, incredible movie! and the P-51 in my opinion is the sexiest fighter plane ever built.

It's the other way around. Jamie doesn't care which side could win or lose, it's not his war, and even if it was, he wouldn't care. In this scene he snaps, he is in PTSD shock, he doesn't care to die. He basically is already dead. When he tries to revive people, chanting like a mantra that he could bring back to life anybody, in a frame he is trying to revive himself. Amazing film.

Watched this movie when I was around 6, and it was burned into my memories: the floating casket, the alcoholic chocolates, the empty pool, the kid in China stealing his shoes, the loneliness Jamie felt losing his parents, Jamie befriending the kamikaze soldier, and Jamie singing (/lip syncing) Suo Gan to the Japanese soldiers. I rewatched it and I still get the same goosebumps throughout the film. Amazing movie.

When he said he can't remember what his parents look like...that got me.

This scene always chokes me up, especially when he shouts out "Cadillac of the sky!"

I agree Jamie, the P-51 Mustang is beautiful and is the "Cadillac of the Sky."

"Horsepower! P-51! Aren't they beautiful? I touched them! I felt their heat! I can taste them. Oil and cordite. Remember how we helped to build the runway? If we'd died like the others, our bones would be in the runway. In a way, it's our runway."

Absolutely breathtaking dialogue.

Those shots of the planes flying close to the ground are mesmerizing & outstanding! Spielberg pulled that off beautifully
