Climate justice can't happen without racial justice | David Lammy

Why has there been so little mention of saving Black lives from the climate emergency? For too long, racial justice efforts have been distinguished from climate justice work, says David Lammy, Member of Parliament for Tottenham, England. In a stirring talk about building a new movement to care for the planet, Lammy calls for inclusion and support of Black and minority leadership on climate issues and a global recognition that we can't solve climate change without racial, social and intergenerational justice.

Justice does not need a qualifier nor prefix. Stop trying to "fix" past injustice by adding more injustice.

It's disappointing how most people on the comment think that it's an attack on them. Climate change does disproportionately affect Black, indigenous and BIPOC people. It's something to think about and recognize.

racial justice can’t happen without black fathers, taking a stand and rasing the children they helped created.

I love how united the comment section is over this. I have a tinge of hope.

The Darfur conflict was about oil, not climate. Nice try though.

I'm a little surprised (but just a little) by the multitude of negative, emotional reactions in the comments. I've yet to see a single person complain about a single fact David Lammy spoke or explain why they disagree. People are projecting their own biases. This is deep truth. If it causes you cognitive dissonance, then take a few breaths, clear your negative energy, and re-watch. If you disagree with any statements, quote him and say why you disagree. A rational argument against something said here would be much more effective than pouting.

Thanks TED. This is excellent.

TED talks used to be about cool, innovative, scientific visions. Now everything is political. Everything has to do with race, discrimination and oppression. TED is no longer what is used to be. I will kindly unsubscribe from TED until somebody sets it back on track.

Racial justice is racism. Justice can only be individual based, because any group contains more than one individuals deserve more than one judgement.

Every word of this speech is right, yet two-thirds of the reactions are negative. The refusal to acknowledge the problem is contributing to it.

You are not a victim. You seem to be doing pretty good to me.

Lammy, haha haha. The guy that said that donating funds to the starving in Africa is racist. FFS TED.

In no way are these two issues correlated. I subscribed to hear and learn from intelegent people on smart subjects- not be lectured on a vague correlation between social justice issues.

You've been putting out a lot of crap lately, but this takes the cake. You can talk about climate issues without bringing this CRT bullcrap into it. You've earned this unsubscribe.

So the climate is racist now? TED has gotten so bad I’ve decided to UNSUBSCRIBE.

if a minority is affected more by a problem than the majority,
then solving the problem itself is a better solution than helping more the minority.
all problems should be solved equally, indifferent of the minority or the majority, except if the problem is directly tied to minority majority conflicts.

Solving climate change first will also solve the climate change affect inequality,
solving just the climate change affect inequality wont do much.

I'm all for equality, and equality problems should be solved equally

Edit: while this video is not that good, please don't use it as a representation of people wanting equality and BLM.
and remember to always treat the other side of an argument with respect.
