What's up everyone:) I hope everyone is having a fantastic day. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Sacha C and I'm a full-time UX Designer and part-time grad student living in Chicago IL. I make videos about my life, fashion, and design.

This video is a bit different for me as I haven't shared my professional life on Youtube. Well, today that changed! In this video, I walk you through what exactly a Human-Computer Interaction degree is and if it's worth it. As with everything, this is my opinion and others may have different opinions. I hope you guys can get a solid understanding of what HCI is and if it's right for you. This is also coming from a UX Designers point of view, so some of my input about what HCI is is coming from a UX approach.

thanks for making this video, really considering switching my major and wanted to find a real person talking about this. not someone just pushing a bootcamp or course.

This is a good video, please describe the classes and textbooks a little more in detailed so that we can get a sense of how the class and study looks like.

I’m starting my masters in two months, i have a bachelor in computer science and psychology but I don’t have experience in the field. I’m kinda afraid I’m going to finish my masters and won’t find jobs

Im about to graduate with a psychology degree and only recently realize that I want to break into UIUX field and is thinking of getting a master in HCI. Since everything is quite new to me, I think getting into HCI master and also simultaneously taking extra uiux courses outside will prob help to prepare me more. what do you think?

When you say "a basic understanding of how a computer works", what exactly do you mean lol? I am very familiar with using computers/software, but I know nothing about coding and very little about hardware. I want to learn more though.

Hey Sacha I really enjoy your videos. I’m a student in uni right now and wanted to ask you something. My major that I plan on attaining is a bachelors in cognitive science and my question for you is that “is that a good major” to get into the Ux/UI field 😁

Does IU and UX involve programing the actual apps/websites or just designing them for the best user experience/visual appearance?

OK, now that you're probably done with your masters - I have questions!

I have a BFA from 2005. I've been working as a developer since 2011. I have been in roles like Designer/developer, product designer, ux designer, ui designer and all combinations. I've been teaching full-stack dev and product design for the last 4 years independently. Sometimes I think about getting a masters degree (for fun) (for that little boost on the "does this guy know what he's doing" scale and resume etc). But I've read a bunch of HCI books and it seems like I've learned all of these things already via UX and just "figuring things out" while on the job. I'm happy with my work contracting and teaching, but I'm also interested in working for a larger company to work on bigger problems (like Apple or something). Do you think someone like me (42/experienced) would get value out of an HCI masters? I really don't want to just do it for the sake of the degree - but also, maybe that in itself is worth it and opens new opportunities? What's your view? Also, how important do you think the school reputation is? Thanks.

What did you get your bachelors degree in?

Great video but just a correction. A product designer in most rudimentary definition is someone who handles design direction of a product end to end. A cross functional role that is a little bit of research, LOTS of UX and have the functional capacity to carry out the visuals too.

Product designer is often described as a generalist super set of ux design.

How is being a UX designer for you? Is it always stressful? Obviously I’m sure every big job is but I mean are there moments where things don’t work for you and it costs your clients business or worse your own job? That’s the big concern I have with pursuing UX right now but it seems like the job most feasible and enjoyable for me.
