Teen Loses Her Leg in Shark Attack During Belize Vacation

A 15-year-old is in a fight for her life after a horrific shark attack. Annabelle Carlson had just completed the dive on a popular tour. Her family says she took off her scuba gear and jumped back into the water for a swim when the shark ferociously tore into her right leg. The Colorado high school student who ended up losing her leg was airlifted to a local trauma center and then flown back to the U.S.

I understand why the news don't care about it, and the girl certainly wouldn't want to be reminded of it, but it's important to mention that the tour was indeed safe and it wasn't a professional's mistake.

isnt it odd that the news always feel the need to point out how those poor souls were "fun loving" and "enjoying their life" before destiny struck them? guess depressed people wouldnt deserve empathy as much and its much worse if it hits a happy one.

so i live in the belize on the same island the tour started at. they were going for a dive and returned and she was going to jump back in but the tour guides told her no its dangerous because they could see her jumping in the water as food since fisherman throw their fish in the water for the sharks and so the sharks must have thought that it was time for food and it was multiple reef sharks that attacked her. she said "im not afraid of sharks" and proceeded to jump in even tho she was told not to multiple times since it was dangerous. sadly because of that choice she lost a leg and have many injuries and the guides have also lost their job.

What I just learned being in Belize right now is that the boat crew was disgarding fish scraps they used to attract sharks before. The girl jumped back into the water without the approval of the boat's captain and ended up on the "fish soup". The rest is history.

Poor thing, her entire life changed in a matter of a minute or two. She'll likely regret jumping back into the water for a long time until she eventually makes peace with it.

I am a Belizean bartender and when i heard this all i asked who were the guides and after i got details they where with the best guys for that situation.. it was an act of god and not negligence.. safe recovery .. this is also an isolated incident.. our country is beautiful especially san pedro town

Yes I have all 4 limbs but people saying her life is over is just wrong...she lost a leg, she can still be the same person and achieve anything she wants

It was 3 reef sharks that attacked her which is extremely rare here. We dive daily with them and have no problems. We certainly wish her the best and the best recovery she can possibly have. Never like seeing these stories come from our island. This girl is a tough fighter to take on 3 sharks with little help.
