My headcannon that i just thought of - Helen was trying to draw a map. If you are very lucky and survive long enough the map will show you the center of the distortion’s halls, to the real door. What if it was actually HELENS map, found by Gertrude (because to some Fears time is just another plaything and it could have been discovered inside the maze in that case) that she gave to Michael! Then both of them become a sort of mad self-fulfilling prophesy.

i ADORE this ! it really drove home for me how tragic it was for helen after she became the distortion that jon didn't want to help her, but i adore her and i really love how much she leaned into it in season 5 and how much fun she ended up having, anyway i love my distorted wife
