FACIAL FAT TRANSFER | What you need to know with top NY cosmetic surgeon Dr Westreich

Face fat grafting is one of the most in-demand non-surgical aesthetic procedures of the moment.
I visited leading plastic surgeon Dr @RichardWestreich at his Manhattan clinic to find out what can go right and what can go wrong when transferring fat to the face.
The procedure involves harvesting your own fat cells from elsewhere in the body and then injecting them into areas of the face where you want to improve volume.

It's not without risk. I was left with permanent scar tissue under one eye. Not on the skin, but underneath where the cannula/needle was inserted to place the fat. That was many years ago and although it's better than it was, it's still visible.

Hands down this is the best explanation of the procedure I’ve heard yet! Big TY to the interviewer and the surgeon this education🙏🏼

Really interesting, and very comforting that he's not an early adopter. There's always a cutting edge, but you only have one face. Also interesting that he noted a decline in surgery, but that's clearly the most durable intervention: expensive, riskier than injections, but also a bigger payoff.

I just had fat transferred from my lower abdomen to my lips. We’ll see how much I retain.

Great information but what about after care and how to prevent any possible fat loss?

Can you please give an estimate of facial fat transfer in dollars. That question and anaesthesia you didn’t ask the doctor besides healing process and hospital cost.

Very interesting interview.
Thank you for your continued research in all things aging.
Personally as I am looking at the women in my life, I think the ones without any (surgical) interventions age the most beautifully.
I find it sad that we are normalizing Botox and fillers as just part of aging.
Thank you for all the informative content!

Great interview and very informative. The only area I wish that was discussed is in regards to asymmetry and percentage of times this happens when using in the cheek area. It would seem to be a high percentage since there is a possible 50% chance of the fat not taking which then in turn seems more than likely the amount of loss/maintained probably would not be exactly equal in each cheek.

It would be good to see photos of people with successful fat transfers 18 months out, 2 years 3 years. People say that these are not available. because the fat disappears in most if not all recipients.

Can we do the thermage first before the fat transfer? And how long should be the interval between the two?

Video suggestion: threadlifts for people who are too young for a faoelift. So who have good skin, no wrinkles but a little sag or jowl. Which threads are best? I know they don’t last for years but if they last a year it seems like a nice option to try

Would a procedure like nano fat transfer work for very small areas like marionette lines? Is it better than say HA?
