When you're looking to lose weight on a keto diet -- or with any other way of eating, for that matter -- approaching the process with realistic expectations can save you a lot of frustration and disappointment if things don't go quite as smoothly as you were hoping.

Even when you're doing "everything right," fat loss rarely happens as quickly and easily as you wish it would.

It's also critical to understand that your scale weight isn't the best way to assess how keto is working for you. That's right -- even if your main goal is fat loss, that number doesn't tell the whole story. It's surprisingly common for your size and shape to change even if your scale weight has barely moved. Plus, daily fluctuations in your weight mostly reflect totally normal shifts in water and other factors. Seeing a small rise or drop in your weight from day to day doesn't mean you've gained or lost fat. It means you live in a human body, and it's completely normal for your weight to shift a little here and there. Don't let the scale play head games with you when everything is actually going just fine!

At age 69, I've been on keto for a year, lost 40 pounds in the first couple of months (my weight loss goal was 50) that loss has been stable (not stalled) for 10 months now. Actually I've gained a few pounds in muscle weight since I lost muscle mass in my initial weight loss. Now my weight is what it was at 17 rather than 15.

Low carb/keto since Sept 2020 lost 74lbs. Still have 30 more to go. I fluctuated like crazy. Slow & steady...stay the course do not let the scale rule you.

Full carnivore for one year now. Doing it to reverse diabetes, not for weight loss, though weight loss is a benefit. Lost 30lbs in the first 6 weeks and have stayed exactly the same weight since then, only up and down a pound at most. Still getting leaner, probably weight wise, another 20-30lbs will come off. Do not care a bit where final weight ends up. Also, after following and studying this for over a year, it seems to take ppl healing from diabetes, or poor nutrition, anywhere from 6 months to 2 years or so to recover to a total healthy level is pretty common. I would say, prepare for that kind of time frame and it could be toward either end. I also believe that your body will find it's comfortable weight when it has repaired itself and has all the nutrients it needs when you eat right and give them to it. Thank you for what you guys do! Very inspiring and helpful. Go Air Force!!!

Using the word “realistic” mostly means someone want to drag you into their conception of reality . Make your reality the one you want . You make it no matter what so beware .

men lose twicde as fast as women. It is a fact. I started the same diet as my husband in our thirties, and in 2 months he had lost 42 pounds and i had lost 20 pounds, eating the same exact thing. So it is true...
