If You Play Super Heavy Gauge Strings, You’ll Probably Want To Do This.

I’m a big fan of drop tuning and heavy riffs, and everyone knows that some heavy gauge guitar strings can help out with that!

But not all guitars have tuning pegs that are able to handle the larger guitar strings.

Sure, you could partially unwind the string every time you swap to a new set.

Or you could shop around for tuning machines that will fit your desired string gauge.

Or you could *gasps* go lighter and not play so low and heavy!

Or you can do this quick, simple 5 minute modification and never have to worry about that particular problem again.

Check it out!

Why not just play a bass at that point?

I play in drop G using 10-56 on a 7 string. Works out really well

0.90 oh you gotta do some truss rod adjustment after the weird different tension... Could've just had 13s like i did and played it as E standard 1 octave lower for a while.

Not saying you shouldn't do it I'm sure you know what you're doing but make sure to have a proper setup after this unbalanced tension, neck relief and all good luck ❤️

I thought you meant filing down the nut a bit. My jaw dropped.

I’m about to put a .068 or .070 for drop c. Love the thicker strings

did you do anything to "finish" the metal? i keep thinking that if ill do this the metal wont be smooth and it will cause string breakage or eat into the string in an undesired way. or am i just over thinking it and i should drill my tuner already?

What gauge do you recommend across the entire fretboard for a 7 string that i am mainly playing in Drop F, also recording with it.

Never lube the post only the nut. You’re just asking for tuning instability if you do that.

Bro just use a metal rod at this point

I have the 7-string model of this guitar and i want to put 95s on it. Do you think the 95 gauge string would go through the bridge?
