The Lighthouse Melagavi or Faros Heraion (from the ancient temple of Hera that lies near it) in Perachora Loutrakiou, at the northern entrance of the bay of Corinth and separates it from the Alkionidon bay north. It drives the ships that sail to the Corinthian gulf and they move to the Canal of Corinth.
The Lighthouse building has been designated as a Historic Conservation Monument.
For the first time in 1897, oil was used as a source of energy. During World War II the beacon remained off. In 1947, as part of the reconfiguration of the lighthouse network, he reopened using oil as a source of energy. In 1982 the lighthouse was electrified, the oil machines were replaced and operated as a supervised electrician lighthouse.
