How to Install an EASY Paver Walkway For BEGINNERS

Here I show you how I (finally) laid my own DIY pathway on a budget with path edging on a mortar bed, staggered stepping stones, and gravel in my backyard, leading to my workshop and garden shed.

You'll also see that while laying my own gravel path in a garden, I used no power tools other than my headphones to keep me motivated and plenty of elbow grease.

There's no need for a cement mixer either during this DIY garden path. Instead, I mixed my sand and cement mortar mix in a mixing tray to lay my block pavers and garden path stepping stones, then topped up the rest with gravel.

TOOLS I USED TO MAKE MY DIY PATHWAY:

Block pavers - Bradstone Woburn Rumbled Block Paving
Grit sand 1 tonne (roughly)
20mm Gold flint [Amazon]

Hope you enjoy my shed path project!

I haven't even watched the whole video yet when I saw how kind you were to your dog when you accidentally bumped her/him. I love videos that include kindness.

One of my holdups for a project like this is because I'm an artist, putting down plain pavers is so boring. I could literally spend the winter doing pavers and then hire someone to install in spring....best of both worlds!!! Thank you for a great video!!!

Nice job Vikkie, looks great. Impressed with the jig you made to lay the pavers, saved a load of work.

Great Job! For me the hardest part of any landscaping project like this is finding the motivation to just do it. You did a great job and it looks good. Hans is as handsome as ever too.

Minimum of 4 to 6 inches sub base, but you may get away with 3 to 4 if down to sub solid but it looks like you are only down the organic soil and only using a hand wacker plate. I would also apply a slurry to each concrete pavers before laying onto the mortar and this will guarantee a good bond. Arguably over engineered which I tend to do, but it belt and braces. But as you said, it only you, hubby and your gorgeous dog that will be walking on your new walk way. Good video and good explanation. Job well done and it looks good.

Very nice, mix of materials, and I like the reversible jig to get the same measurement from two sides! Thanks, Simon

I find mixing the mortar on a spot, try this, get a pair of rubber drain gloves up the the elbow, hands and on your knees and mix with your hands like making a cake, 'literally' like making a cake, sooo much easier than using a shovel, I've never gone back - even easier in a wheel barrow hand mixing that is
