Interesting fact: although many houses in Detroit continue to be abandoned, many larger houses, mansions, apartments and skyscrapers are actually being restored.

I was gonna make a “cant have shit in Detroit” joke but like most things left unattended in that city, it was stolen from me.

This isn't just "after the recession."
This is Detroit since the 90s.

The sad thing is that this has been going on in Detroit since the 50s - 60s

It’s almost like they lost most of their core employer due to outsourcing which led to a 60 year decline that still hangs over the area.

I hate seeing that. I miss my childhood home. I thought the house I grew up in was a place I'd get to go my whole life. My initials are in the foundation. My parents got a divorce like ten years ago, and sold it. All those houses, people spent Christmases in those living rooms, and kids sat in front of the NES on a "huge" 30" screen in those houses, had their heights marked on door frames. All sorts of people wish they could have a home like those. The American Dream happened on those streets. It's as dead of a burnt out husk as all those ruins.
