It may be late in the season but there's still plenty to get started if you want to get the most from your garden. Sowings made now will set you up for even more crops later on this autumn, through winter, and on into spring.

So, join Ben as he sows a tempting selection of Asian greens, winter-hardy salads and some last-minute roots.

I just came in from my “September” sowing to cook dinner and saw this video 😆

I’m banking of a little more sun and have done some late fast growing carrots, spring onions, cauliflower, radish, kale and peas (for pea shoots mostly…. But you never know! With UK weather!)

Hello! I just started my gardening journey a week ago, and I am obsessed! The extremely cheap pots and seeds due to what time it is in the year is a brilliant bonus and headstart for me. I'll be sure to sow some of these next month!

I live in zone 8 USA. We're in the dog days of summer here (high 90s, 100s). But still planning my fall garden. Swiss card, kale, beets, carrots, spinach, kohlrabi, bokcoy, and collards.

I love your upbeat and enthusiastic attitude! Thanks for the tips. I've just finished planting cilantro, parsley, green onions, and Swiss Chard as part of my fall garden.

Hi Ben, I know you’ve done many strawberry videos but could you do one about “what to do before winter”, “what to do with the offshoots over winter” zone 6b, thanks for inspiring me to garden ❤ I was severely depressed before watching your videos . They have sparked an interest for me to gardening. Over the summer I built a greenhouse, built five huge raised beds, started a chicken coop and now working on a walk way. Thanks Ben 😊

I've been gathering up old windows around the farm. I plan to put Together a few cold frames to keep some greens going as long as possible. Love this fresh greens and all the store bought ones don't taste as good nor last as long. But future plans are to build me a small green house with these old windows.
My garden has been awesome this year. A lot is due to your awesome advice I have followed. And my wonderful home grown fertilizer from my horses and donkey lol. My cows have been on vacation all summer visiting t
My friends bull so, the Lord willing, in Jan ill have calves and in April...a MULE, hopefully a gaited mule. This old lady's little farm is growing.

I grow mizuna in Japan and it is very hardy. I have had it snowed on before with no problem. If you cut it at the base for the leaves it grows back quickly for more harvesting later.

It was kind of you to mention the US (Winter) equivalent to your zone. For those of us with hot summers and sometimes brutally cold winters the mild UK climate can be perplexing.

Yet again clear, concise along with utter professionalism and articulation. Why a television company hasn't commissioned you I've no idea. 🤬

Oh my word zone 8! I never would have guessed for the UK! Thanks for mentioning 😅 I'll have to adapt the advice as I'm in a Canadian zone 3 😬 but i did plant out some arugula and pac choi last week. Fingers crossed for at least some baby greens.

Hi, Ben! North Florida Zone 8 is in many ways like yours, and in many ways not so much. I've got all of my seeds for Fall, but the weather has been so hot here (Upper 90's and 101 yesterday and possibly again today) that I can't even sow indoors in my laundry room!! Hopefully, it will cool down enough to get my plants started. It's also been impossible for me to get outside to work the garden. It's just not healthy for a 70 year old lady. Nevertheless, I'll be out there as soon as the weather cools a little. My goal this year is to plant a year's worth of English peas and snow peas, broccoli and cauliflower. Anything else I plant that survives the winter will be considered a fresh-eating bonus!

Let several of these winter greens go to seed in the spring and allow them to spread around your garden. They will become prolific weeds with the advantages that they exclude other weeds and can simply be pulled and eaten.
Two red mustard plants (over two meters high at harvest) gave me enough seed for kitchen for most of a year and I cook with them twice a week.
