The manga is a product of its time, and not without its flaws. It's worth noting it revolutionized the cyberpunk genre introducing an aesthetic not seen in quite the same way and dared to appeal to a more mature audience which wasn't the norm for animation at the time, however the movie pushed the boundaries of traditional animation, introducing groundbreaking techniques that still look amazing and fluid even today.
