What is the best solid body guitar for Jazz? 😎 Sometimes people say that a real jazz guitar is an archtop guitar but that is not clearly not true!
Wes Montgomery might even have recorded on a solid body instrument, Joe Pass played a Fender Jazzmaster.

What is your favorite Jazz guitar tone with a solid body guitar? 🙂

Anything you’ve spent hundreds of hours practicing on.

Julian lage playing his telecaster is my favorite. Seeing him up close live was like a spiritual experience. Literally took my breath away

Obviously a Jackson pro series Rhoads Rr24-7. If you can’t whammy your way through a chromatic enclosure do you really understand bebop?!

Ed Bickert on his Telecaster, hard to beat that.

Gibson SGs sound amazing in a jazz context. They have a clarity that other humbucker guitars usually don't.

When I was a freshman music student playing a Strat, all of my professors told me I should get an archtop if I was going to play jazz. I ended up buying an Ibanez Artcore, and it was my main instrument through college. Later on though, when I had to sell a guitar and make room in my car for a move, I kept my Strat 👍

I did 3 years of a music major with a stock Ibanez ART100 as my only guitar.

Guitar doesn't matter, the player is what matters.

Yamaha revstar with p90’s. Best solid body jazz guitar I own/play regularly.

I play in a couple of big bands and pretty much use my Fender Jazzmaster all the time! Fantastic tone and articulation. For looks and vibe I’ll occasionally get out my ES175!

I think Joe Pass played a Jaguar, not a Jazz Master. Jags can be surprisingly warm and rich — especially on the "rhythm circuit". For me, a Telecaster with a humbucker in the neck position works wonders.

I think Ed Bickert's tone is lovely

I would go with a Gretsch Falcon. The FilterTron pickups are so incredibly versatile, and the classic Gretsch master volume lets you dial in the perfect combination of bridge and neck pickups with ease.
Plus, the chambered body cuts down on the weight so you can play for longer before getting tired.
Not to mention, it's nearly impossible to find a Gretsch that doesn't look classy as heck.

In my opinion and with humility, I think that the most important is the message behind the music, this involves the sound, the notes, the ability, technique and creativity of the musician. And beyond that, the guitar I think doesn't really matters as long as it connects emotionnaly with the player.
For me it's all that's make sense...❤ p.s. yours videos are amazing !

I bought PRS Custom 22, back in 2007. It's the best and most versatile guitar I've ever owned.

unless you have a mic in front of your guitar and are blending the acoustic sound with the amp sound, then the guitar body makes no difference, hollow or solid. (at least in a studio setting where feedback isnt an issue.) all that matters is pickups and their position relative to the scale length. jim lill has some amazing videos about this.

choose whatever guitar is most comfortable for you in your price range, then have a pro swap in your pickups of choice and do a setup. (or just do it yourself, its not that hard.)

even a $300 squier with $200 worth of pickups can be your forever guitar.
