Heroic Interview: How to Become a Straight-A Student with Cal Newport

Cal Newport is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dartmouth who went on to MIT for his Ph.D. and is now a Professor at Georgetown. Cal shares the top ideas he gleaned from interviews with non-grind Phi Beta Kappa members at elite schools across the country. They had to perform well AND they had to achieve those results without grinding away. Their practices, although discovered independently, reflect the same wisdom shared in the science books. It’s great to see the overlap.

If you're a student, the fact that you're here listening to this means you're ahead of the majority already. I hope that encourages you to get even better. Good luck 😉.

27:58 but nice thing about it is it has windowing effect so you go through all the problems that you need to know if you get it right once, you give a convincing lecture, check it off, you never have to go back to it again. because of the ultra efficeiency of this method of locking things in so that means the next time throgh you're just looking at the problems that you didn't check off that time

Awesome!

I have the book but I haven't finished it! You are the 3rd Youtuber that I follow that mentions this book. It must be a sign to finish once and for all. LOL

An excellent interview which ties Cal Newport's earlier college study approach and guidelines to his decade later Deep Work. Excellent for students and adult professionals. Buy both publications.

I've applied these techniques on my prerequisites for nursing school while working full time at a collision shop. I can't wait to apply them in nursing school!

Excelente entrevista. Lo mejor sobre el tema que escuche últimamente, un profesor serio, con formación académica real, que aplica lo que enseña. Feliz de haber encontrado está entrevista. Sigan así, dando herramientas para crecer y aprender. Un saludo desde Argentina.

The strategies mentioned in "How to Become a Straight A Student by Cal Newport" for writing papers are for writing Term Papers or the same strategies can be applied for writing a Journal/Conference paper especially in engineering or technical field at Master and PhD level?

At uni in France we have compulsory 13+ courses per year. Set up for failure in competitive degrees such as medicine

Hello sir, a had read how to become a straight a student. In page 45 cal Newport said "if you're pressed for time, eat fast. In my opinion it's totally unhealthy. You neither skip any of your meal nor eat fast. Take your time and enjoy your food many of our Saint told this. Sri Ravi Sankar, Rajib Dixit and many more.
