I loved D2 growing up, became obsessed with D3 after ROS. I was consistently on the leaderboards on D3 between season 8-13. One day I tried PoE out of curiosity and I have never looked back. The game is arguably the greatest ARPG of all time. With an awesome studio behind it. The game is ever changing and immensely complex.

1:20 the power creep fantasy is great in PoE, but I think the best part about PoE is the build defining uniques. take the hot kid on the block, Defiance of Destiny. it is a defense amulet, but it adds a completely new and unique mechanic.

RPG player, never played Diablo, picked up PoE and loved it. Chose Hierophant theme from the start and developed it the way I felt like at every choice point. Had plenty of challenges along the way but no struggles right through to the endgame.

As someone who doesn't play PoE but is vaguely familiar with it, did Josh just say that PoE is easy to get into? Cause I thought PoE is notorious for being overly complex *looks at talent trees*

honestly, the story of PoE (or more its theme...?), the climb from loser to hero was one of the things I enjoyed the most. And the second climb in act 2, where you're somewhat gone from hero to a loser worse than the one your character was at the start of the game felt even more impactful

I'm from New Zealand so my friends and I got this game when it was pretty new and still in beta I think. It was around when League of Legends Season 3 was happening for reference. Brilliant game. It's insane that it's from New Zealand, although Grinding Gears are now owned by a Chinese company. I couldn't fall down the rabbit hole and spend all day every day playing it, but that's no game ever for me. Still, for the few days or weeks I played it, I was having a blast.

While this is my second league already, im still experiencing so much new stuff.
Yesterday I realized though how much dopamine/adrenaline this game puts out for me.
Just went into red maps and my 3rd map with Exarch altars was insane. Gilded Scarabs, big embers, chaos etc packs popping into juicy loot pinatas, but damn it was completely deadly. More AoE on burning ground meant I was inches away from dying, lost 3 portals to a pack on spawn point. But on that last portal I put on my sweaty gamer pants and kept going.

15min later, heart racing, sweat dripping I get sent back to Hideout, with a little over 50 mobs and boss left. But im grinning like a Shellshock Survivor because my inventory holds twice as much value as my entire stash at that point.
I went into this game feeling indifferent about trading and contemplating SSF, but man does it feel good to have valuable drops in a game that are not tied to their random stats most of the time. In PoE you play as a literal loot goblin (considering the sounds I make when my filter tinks that sounds pretty fitting)

What PoE gets right comparatively to Diablo (3 and 4) in terms of pure gameplay, is choice. You can make builds that are so whacky and somehow work. You can make meme builds ala Asmongold. You can make builds that take a lot of time and currency and make you a God. No matter what kind of play style you enjoy, PoE offers it in spades. In Diablo you are really pigeon holed into a few builds. I never felt, in D4, like i had much choice or that my choices when leveling even had muxh impact. It felt like the game was really battling against me every char I leveled. While the first char thorugh the campaign of each season in PoE isn't super fun (for me anyways), i can twink the sh!t out of subsequent characters and breeze through the campaign and a solid clip.
