I am 69 years old, and grew up eating beef bologna sandwiches which I took to school in my lunchbox every day, except when I took peanut butter sandwiches. We bought our bologna at the grocery store or at a butcher's counter. It wasn't something I ever saw in my school cafeteria. And until this video, I've never heard of bologna boats. Ever.

All the comments and community here is so respectful and wholesome! Is so nice to find a cozy and warm place here without trolls, bad people, negative energy and bad manners for once! Greetings from Argentina Cowboy Kent :)

Kent, when I went to school in S. Carolina ('69-'70), the lunchroom would occasionally have this bologna concoction that started with a thick slab of the meat, topped with a glob of mashed potatoes, topped with a slice of American cheese, then baked to partially melt the cheese. Maybe it doesn't sound appetizing to some folks, but it was pretty good.

I love this. We had weiner winks. It was like pigs in a blanket. It was a piece of bread, a slice of American cheese, and a hotdog. You put the hotdog diagonally corner to corner, then overlap the other two corners on top of the hotdog, put a toothpick through to hold it together, and then put it in the oven.

I'm 63 and in early grade school 1st through 6th grade, the school head cook made Bologna boats once a month. I remember that the contents of the Bologna boats would vary from month to month, but the Bologna boats we were served were fantastic. Also, one of my favorite sandwich's is two slices of Bologna with a thick cut slice of a sweet onion with mayo....add some potato chips and an ice cold RC cola and I am a happy man.

my absolute favorite thing they cooked in the cafeteria was homemade yeast rolls. and they were homemade!!! nothing out of a bag or freezer. you could smell them cooling when you walked in the building. the best part was when we got in high school and had last lunch if you talked real nice the the lunchroom ladies they would bring out a whole tray of fresh hot rolls to the tables. Oh they were so good. better grab em fast cause didnt last but about 15 seconds. shout out to all those grandmas that worked in our lunchroom. you were some special ladies. thanks Kent for the videos recipes and you class. you are a true red blooded American and i appreciate how you always thank out troops and end with thanking the lord above for our blessings. God Bless.
